(WCIA) -- The Illinois State Police has released dashcam footage of a crash in which a Springfield man was struck and killed by a state trooper vehicle back in April. In a release on Wednesday, State Police announced that for transparency, a video of this event is now available to the public. They noted that they also provided the victim's family the opportunity to review the video before its public release. This update stems from a situation that occurred on April 25 at approximately 2:30 a.m. in which a trooper was traveling south on South 6th Street in Springfield. The trooper was approaching a green light at the intersection with Linton Avenue when a pedestrian -- previously identified as 45-year-old Charles Henderson -- was bent down in the roadway and ultimately struck by the trooper's car. Troopers on the scene rendered aid until EMS arrived. Henderson was taken to an area hospital and was later pronounced deceased. In the release, State Police said earlier that night, troopers had encountered Henderson in the street and warned him he needed to stay out of the road. They also noted that in accordance with the Police and Community Relations Improvement Act (50 ILCS 727) and the Illinois State Police Law (20 ILCS 2605), State Police's Division of Internal Investigation special agents investigated this case and submitted all the evidence and facts to the Sangamon County State's Attorney's Office.
