Stolen vehicle pursuit ends in deadly crash near Edinburg: DPS
HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) -- A woman was pronounced dead on Friday after leading law enforcement on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle near Edinburg, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. Pharr resident Crystal Ramirez, 32, died of her injuries sustained in the crash. The crash occurred at approximately 4:47 p.m. on Iowa Road east of Verbena Street, east of Edinburg in Hidalgo County. According to DPS, a State Trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a gray Chevrolet Captiva for a traffic violation on FM 495 and Tower Road. Ramirez reportedly refused to stop and drove eastbound on Iowa Road at a high-speed before losing control of the vehicle. The vehicle reportedly went airborne, then struck a light pole and a tree. DPS said the Chevrolet Captiva was reported stolen out of Edinburg. The deadly crash is under investigation.
