Following tragic accident, Shawano Mini Golf makes difficult decision to reopen
SHAWANO, Wis. (WFRV) - Nine days following the tragic accident resulting in the death of a 5-year-old girl, officials with Shawano Mini Golf say they are making the difficult decision to reopen the course. According to a release, Dusty DeLorme, owner of Shawano Mini Golf, publicly stated that the recent incident at the course, which he says is "something I (he) never could have imagined," has left him to spend a lot of time thinking about what comes next for the mini golf course. Ultimately, DeLorme has opted to reopen Shawano Mini Golf. It's a decision he says he has wrestled with over whether reopening the course is the right thing to do and that he does not expect everyone to agree with the decision to reopen, stating, "I (he) know there will be people who don’t understand or who wish we’d make a different decision, and I (he) truly respect that." DeLorme adds that the decision to reopen Shawano Mini Golf does not mean that they have forgotten the tragic incident that took place just over a week ago. Shawano Mini Golf, which is said to have the purpose of bringing people together, will reopen at 10:00 a.m. on July 10. Daily hours and other exciting summer opportunities will continue to be posted on social media, as DeLorme says they will "Do our best to serve this community the way we’ve always hoped to."
