Fatal Mayes County crash claims life of Chouteau man

MAYES COUNTY, Okla. — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported on Friday that last week's automobile crash claimed the life of a Chouteau man. The crash occurred on July 3 around 7 p.m. at the intersection of US-412 and County Road 430. Winfield D. Schoolcraft, 88, died on July 4, the patrol said. Schoolcraft was northbound on County Road 430 when he failed to yield to oncoming traffic from a stop sign. He then entered the westbound lane of US-412 and was struck on the passenger side and ejected from his vehicle. Michael Anderson, 72, of Stillwater, the driver of the second vehicle, was injured, the patrol said. Information provided by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol was reported during the preliminary stages of the investigation.  All information could be subject to change.
