Young driver dead after crash with tractor-trailer in Miami County

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A 21-year-old young man is dead after a vehicle vs. tractor-trailer crash on Saturday night in Miami County. According to the Piqua Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on I-75 north, near milemarker 75.  The initial investigation found a 2010 Freightliner tractor-trailer pulled over on the right shoulder, into a construction zone (which was out of the way of the traffic lanes), because of a mechanical issue. Officials said several minutes after stopping, it was hit in the back by a 2005 Chevrolet Impala, driven by 21-year-old Yukahn Riffell, from Ansonia. The Impala was heading north on I-75, drove out of its lane and into the construction zone (the closed lanes). Riffell was pronounced dead due to his injuries from the crash. The Freightliner driver was uninjured. “Troopers from the Piqua Post were assisted on scene by the Troy Police Department, Troy Fire and EMS and Dick Lumpkin’s Towing,” wrote the post. The crash is under active investigation. 2 NEWS is working to learn more.
