Drug overdose suspected in crash into NE Ohio Planet Fitness: Police

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) -- A driver is facing an OVI charge after a vehicle crashed into a fitness center in Warren on Monday night. Just before 10 p.m. Monday, a car drove into the Planet Fitness on Elm Road. The car has since been removed from the building, and the location reopened around 4 a.m. A report from the Warren Police Department states that the driver, identified as Matthew Gilmore, experienced what investigators believed to be a drug overdose, causing the vehicle to drive over a curb and hit the wall of Planet Fitness. The vehicle then continued through the wall and into the business, hitting pieces of gym equipment. Both Gilmore and a passenger were treated with naloxone, an opioid-reversal drug, and later taken to St. Joseph Warren Hospital. Gilmore refused to submit a blood test and was charged with OVI and reasonable control. A warrant has been issued for Gilmore's arrest through Warren Municipal Court. Alex Sorrells contributed to this report.
