Woman killed in fatal Edwardsville motorcycle crash identified
Authorities have released the name of a woman who died after an April 11 crash involving a motorcycle and a passenger car in Edwardsville. Valarie M. Martin, 26, of Bethalto, was a passenger on the motorcycle and died of her injuries at a St. Louis hospital, Edwardsville Police Chief Michael Fillback said. The motorcycle’s rider was injured. The crash happened on Illinois 157 near Mengstrasse. Edwardsville Police Department officers responded to the crash about 10 p.m. April 11, according to Fillback. A northbound Suzuki motorcycle struck the rear of a northbound Toyota Camry, ejecting the rider and passenger. Both were taken to an area hospital by Edwardsville Fire Department personnel with serious injuries. The occupants of the Camry were not injured. Fillback said the crash remains under investigation, and no additional information will be released until it is complete and has been reviewed with the state’s attorney.
