Pedestrian dead after crash near Las Vegas Strip

A pedestrian is dead after a crash near the Las Vegas Strip early Wednesday morning. The collision was reported around 3:17 a.m. at Sammy Davis Jr. and Resorts World drives, just south of Sahara Avenue, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said. In a statement, LVMPD said they believe a woman was crossing diagonally within the intersection against a traffic control signal. She slipped and fell to the ground as she was hit by a 2025 Toyota Prius crossing the intersection on a green light. Medical personnel took her to UMC, where she died from her injuries. The driver of the Toyota stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. LVMPD initially said the driver was detained at the scene for an impairment investigation. The news release provided later in the morning did not state if authorities suspect impairment. The pedestrian's death marks the 66th traffic-related fatality in the department's jurisdiction so far this year. The crash remains under investigation.
