17-year-old from Fresno killed in Madera County crash had ‘a bright future ahead’

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The 17-year-old killed in a Madera County crash over the weekend was described in an online fundraiser as "an extraordinary young woman with a bright future ahead of her." In a GoFundMe fundraiser verified by YourCentralValley.com, 17-year-old Gisselle Diaz from Fresno was described as "exceptionally intelligent and graduated as valedictorian with a 4.2 GPA." Gisselle Diaz was one of two victims of the crash: the other being her mother, 50-year-old Samantha Xiongnhiathao. Samantha was described in the fundraiser as "a woman of deep faith whose life was rooted in love, compassion, and service to others." Both mother and daughter were from Fresno. The online fundraiser was set up by family following the weekend crash, which organizers described as an "unimaginable loss." According to the California Highway Patrol, the two died early Saturday morning after the car they were in crashed into a tractor-trailer on Highway 152 at Road 14 ½ in Madera County.
