West L.A. hit-and-run leaves man, toddler dead; woman fighting for her life
A man and a toddler died in a violent hit-and-run crash that also left a woman in critical condition early Sunday morning, authorities say. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the multi-vehicle collision was reported at 4:34 a.m. near 6800 Vista Del Mar in Playa Del Rey. The circumstances surrounding the crash itself were not known right away; however, LAFD was able to confirm that one of the vehicles contained three people: a man and a woman, both approximately 30 years of age, and a one-year-old. The woman and child were rushed to a hospital in critical condition, LAFD said. The man succumbed to his injuries at the scene and was pronounced deceased by first responders. A Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson later confirmed to KTLA that the one-year-old also died. The nature of the relationship between the two adults and child was not immediately known. Fire officials said that one of the vehicles involved in the collision fled the scene. The LAPD described the suspect as a Hispanic man driving a white Jeep SUV; however, video obtained by KTLA shows a damaged vehicle matching that description at the scene of the crash, indicating the suspect may have fled on foot. Whether speed or impairment played a role in the crash was not determined right away. Alexis Lewis and Sofia Pop Perez contributed to this report.
