VSP: Elderly woman killed in motorhome crash on I-77

CARROLL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) - A 70-year-old woman from Pennsylvania was fatally ejected from a motorhome after the vehicle lost control on I-77 and crashed, according to Virginia State Police (VSP). On Saturday, June 20, at 2:42 p.m., a single-vehicle crash happened on Interstate 77 northbound at the four-mile marker in Carroll County. A 2005 Coachman Encore recreational vehicle (motorhome) lost control, ran off the right side of the road and struck the guardrail, according to VSP. A passenger in the vehicle was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected and died at the scene. Police identified the victim as Gretchen H. Karcher, 70, of Versailles, Pa. VSP says the driver of the vehicle is Ronald J. Winkler, 73, of N. Versailles, Pa. Winkler was not injured in the crash. State police continue to investigate the cause of this accident.
