Maine man accused of threatening people with gun dies in Charlotte crash

CHARLOTTE, Maine (WGME) – Authorities say a Maine man who allegedly threatened people with a gun at a Calais bar died after crashing his Corvette in Charlotte. Maine State Police say 40-year-old Robert Boggia Jr. of Whiting allegedly threatened people with a gun at a Calais bar around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday. Boggia left the bar before law enforcement arrived. Also read: Robert Bogg ia Jr. indicted after allegedly trying to have woman killed from behind bars According to troopers, Boggia was later spotted on Route 1 in Calais driving a red Corvette at an estimated 150 miles per hour. Authorities were unable to catch up with him. A short time later, authorities came upon a crash on Charlotte Road in Charlotte. Troopers say Boggia was ejected from the Corvette and was found a significant distance from the crashed vehicle. He died at the scene. The investigation into the events prior to the crash are ongoing, and toxicology results are pending.
