Norwich man found with ghost gun after allegedly fleeing Groton car crash: PD

GROTON, Conn. (WTNH) — A Norwich man is facing charges after allegedly fleeing the scene of a Groton car crash before being caught by police while in possession of a ghost gun. Groton police responded to a crash between a black Audi Q3 and a Volkswagen Beetle in the area of Poquonnock and Laurelwood roads around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday. Dispatch reported the driver of the Audi, later identified as Elijah D. Britto-Sebastian, 21, of Norwich, had fled east on foot. When officers initially investigated the crash, they reported signs of narcotics possession and drug use in plain view inside the Audi. A records check revealed the registration marker displayed on the Audi did not belong to the vehicle, police said. Officers also learned the Audi had been reported stolen from Enfield on June 12. At approximately 6:30 a.m., officers observed a man matching the description of the fleeing Audi operator on Buddington Road. Britto-Sebastian allegedly attempted to evade officers by fleeing into a nearby wooded area, police said. He was caught shortly after. Britto-Sebastian was in possession of an AR-15-style rifle lacking a serial number at the time of his arrest, and police said he is a felon on probation for firearms-related offenses. He has been charged with: Britto-Sebastian was held on a $500,000 court-set cash surety bond. The investigation is active and ongoing.
