Two fatal Hill County crash victims confirmed to be Hillsboro Elementary students
HILL COUNTY, Texas (FOX 44) - UPDATE: Two of the deceased victims involved in a Hill County crash which killed six people have been confirmed to be Hillsboro Elementary School (HES) students. The Hillsboro Independent School District issued a statement to families and staff on Sunday which shared the students' passing. The two students, along with family members, were involved in a tragic car accident on Saturday. A third HES student is recovering at Cook Children's Medical Center. The district says it will have counselors on standby this week. If any Hillsboro ISD children or families need to speak with a counselor, they can contact Principal Kimberly Carter at [email protected] or by phone at (254) 582-4140 to schedule an appointment. The Texas Department of Public Safety tells FOX 44 News that the crash occurred at approximately 4:33 p.m. Saturday. The crash happened on Highway 171, near FM-3155, between Bynum and Malone. A Nissan traveling northbound on Highway 171 attempted to pass another vehicle and crashed into an approaching Ford Van. Both vehicles became fully engulfed. DPS says two adults and two children in the van have died. Two people in the Nissan have died. One child in the van who was transported to Cook Children's Medical Center is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is active and ongoing. Next of kin have not been notified. This is a developing story. FOX 44 News will have more information as it becomes available.
