U.S. 42 closed again in Delaware County after crash involving a tow truck cable
DELAWARE, Ohio (WCMH) — A tow truck cable stretched across a Delaware County road is believed to be the root cause of a crash that caused serious injuries Tuesday night. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers are investigating a serious crash involving a commercial vehicle and sedan that occurred Tuesday night at 11:45 p.m. on U.S. Route 42. The crash occurred in Concord Township, southwest of Delaware, where a 2025 Freightliner commercial semi-tractor trailer was traveling southwest on U.S. 42. The truck driver pulled off the right side of the road and became stuck. A tow-truck company was called to the scene to assist and the driver of a 2011 International Heavy Wrecker pulled off the left side of the road. The two-truck operator attached a winch cable across the roadway in an attempt to pull the semi-truck out of its position. At that time, a 2019 Honda Civic was traveling northeast on U.S. 42 and struck the cable that was crossing the roadway. The driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to a Columbus hospital. The OSHP closed U.S. 42 for over two hours, the second time in as many days the road was closed in Delaware County. A one mile area in south Delaware was closed Tuesday morning for approximately four hours after two cars collided, resulting in one fatality.
