Ohio State Highway Patrol investigates 3-car crash on I-71 in Mifflin Township
MANSFIELD, Ohio (WJW) -- Two people standing along Interstate 71 early Sunday, July 26, were injured when an SUV went off the road and struck a vehicle parked on the shoulder, according to state troopers. It happened just before 12:30 a.m. near milepost 173 in Mifflin Township, Richland County, according to a news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Investigators learned an SUV headed south, driven by a 36-year-old Cleveland man, went off the left side of the roadway and hit a sedan that was stationary on the shoulder. The impact pushed the sedan into a tow truck parked ahead of it, as well as two people who were standing outside of the truck: a 28-year-old and a 38-year-old, both of Mansfield, according to the release. The 28-year-old was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. A 24-year-old person from Stow who was inside the parked sedan was also transported to a hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the SUV and the other person outside the two truck were treated at the scene by EMS workers. The two people who were inside vehicles when the crash occurred were both wearing seat belts, according to the release. The incident remains under investigation.
