Driver crashes into 3 cars after being shot in Bennington

BENNINGTON, Vt. (NEWS10) -- Three people were sent to the hospital on Saturday after a shot driver crashed his car into three other vehicles in Bennington, according to police. A person of interest has reportedly been taken into custody. The Bennington Police Department was dispatched to the scene, located in the area of Park Street and Spring Street, at about 5:05 p.m. following a report of a multi-car crash. Upon arrival, officers said they found a car on its roof. According to an investigation, a Subaru with four total occupants was traveling northbound on Park Street when it crashed into three parked vehicles. The vehicle on its roof was reportedly one of the parked cars. As officers began providing medical care to the driver of the Subaru, they discovered that he had a gunshot wound, police said. The 38-year-old was reportedly taken to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center before being transferred to Albany Medical Center with a life-threatening injury. According to police, two of the other occupants of the Subaru were taken to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The fourth occupant allegedly fled the crash scene on foot before authorities arrived. Bennington police said they have identified and taken into custody a person of interest connected to the incident. They are also reportedly looking to speak with the fled occupant of the Subaru.
