UPDATE: Man killed in crash reported north of Helena on I-15
Update 6:00 p.m. July 7, 2026 — According to the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s Office, a 67-year-old man from Texas was killed following a head-on and then rollover crash in a construction zone on Interstate 15. The man was driving one of the vehicles and is believed at this time to have been killed by blunt force trauma. A female was taken to Great Falls by a Mercy Flight helicopter, and a male was taken to St. Peters by ambulance.The sheriff's office is conducting a toxicology report, which is common for all fatal crashes.The identity of the man who died will be released once next of kin has been notified.Responding agencies include Montana Highway Patrol, Lewis and Clark County Sheriff's Office, St. Peter's Health Ambulance, Wolf Creek Volunteer Fire, and West Valley Volunteer Fire.Original story 11:00 a.m. July 7, 2026 — According to the Montana Highway Patrol, a fatal crash was reported north of Helena on Interstate 15.The accident happened around 10:30 a.m. near mile marker 222 in the southbound lanes, in the canyon. MHP says it was a multi-vehicle rollover crash in a construction zone. The crash is causing significant traffic delays in the area, and people are asked to avoid the area.No information on the vehicles involved or the number of injuries has been officially reported yet.
