Two killed in U.S. 52 crash north of Mount Airy

Two people were killed Saturday night in a crash on U.S. 52 in Surry County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.Troopers said the crash happened around 9:28 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 52 and Greenhill Road, just north of Mount Airy.Investigators said Ted William Beesley, of Mount Airy, was driving a 2017 Ford Escape south on U.S. 52 and was attempting to turn left onto Greenhill Road when he failed to yield to an oncoming 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan.The Tiguan, was traveling north on U.S. 52 when the vehicles collided in the intersection, troopers said.Both vehicles left the roadway after the crash.Ted William Beesley and his passenger, Victoria Ellen Beesley, both of Mount Airy, were pronounced dead at the scene.The driver of the Tiguan was taken to Atrium Health with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.Troopers said impairment is not believed to be a factor in the crash.The investigation is ongoing, and charges may be pending.TRENDING
