Tragic Accident Engulfs Truck in Flames on Route 23
A vehicle fire occurred on State Route 23 near Sheff Road following a serious crash, as stated by Acting Town of New Berlin Police Chief David Kaminski. Responding to a 911 call around 10:50 a.m., first responders found a pickup truck ablaze after apparently veering off the road, hitting trees, and traveling a distance from the road. Sadly, the driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. The New York State Police and Chenango County Sheriff’s Office joined the investigation, which remains ongoing, possibly implicating speed. Witnesses or those with relevant information are urged to reach out to the New Berlin Police Department. The road closure and emergency presence lasted until approximately 3 p.m., with efforts continuing. Chief Kaminski, with 30 years in law enforcement, currently leads the Town of New Berlin Police Department while the investigation progresses.
