Three dead after crash on North Broadway

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Three people are dead after a serious crash closed a section of North Broadway in Knoxville Monday morning, police said. The Knoxville Police Department and the Knoxville Fire Department responded to the crash at 8:30 a.m. At 9:09 a.m., KPD said that North Broadway was closed from Cecil Avenue to Grainger Avenue. The road reopened around noon. According to KPD, a vehicle hit a light pole and two pedestrians on the east bank sidewalk of First Creek Greenway. The car then veered off the west bank of First Creek and rolled down the embankment several times. The driver and two pedestrians died at the scene. KPD crash reconstruction personnel are investigating the crash and working to determine what caused the vehicle to hit the light pole. Police asked people to avoid the area. The crash is still under investigation.
