Teens hospitalized after crash between car and train in northern Iowa

A crash between a train and a car in northern Iowa left two teenagers hospitalized.According to the Kossuth County Sheriff's Office, the Kossuth County Law Enforcement Center received a call shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday about a crash between a train and a car on a gravel road in the northeast corner of Lakota.The Kossuth County Sheriff's Office says a 2004 Chevrolet Impala was southbound on 190th Avenue when it struck an eastbound train at a railroad crossing.The 911 caller, Alex Horak, of Lakota, saw the crash. Horak noticed the vehicle had caught fire and helped pull both occupants out of the vehicle shortly before it became fully engulfed in flames, according to the Kossuth County Sheriff's Office.The two occupants — a 16-year-old and a 12-year-old, both males — were taken to a Minnesota hospital with head and upper body injuries.The crash remains under investigation.» Subscribe to KCCI's YouTube page» Download the free KCCI app to get updates on the go: Apple | Google Play
