Motorcyclist killed in downtown interstate crash

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The driver of a motorcycle was killed in a crash that closed lanes of I-25 near downtown Colorado Springs in the evening hours of Thursday, July 16, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD). On Thursday, at around 10:45 p.m., officers were called to a crash on I-25 between Cimarron and Tejon Streets. CSPD said the preliminary investigation revealed a motorcycle was traveling north on I-25 and failed to negotiate the curve, hitting the center median and moving into the southbound lanes. The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. Due to the nature of the injuries, CSPD's Major Crash Team assumed the investigation. All of the southbound lanes and two of the three northbound lanes of I-25 were closed for several hours while detectives investigated. Speed is being investigated as a possible factor.
