Teenager faces charges in Lansing crash that resulted in death of minor and injuries to 12 others.
The Ingham County Prosecutor's office has announced that a 19-year-old man is facing charges related to a fatal five-vehicle crash that occurred last April. John Velasquez-Hicks is accused of reckless driving causing death and reckless driving causing serious injury, following the incident near South Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Mary Avenue in Lansing. The crash resulted in one fatality and injuries to 12 individuals of ages 3 to 52 years old. The collision occurred when two vehicles were speeding south on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and collided with a turning vehicle, impacting two additional cars in the northbound lanes. Velasquez-Hicks is set to appear in court for hearings scheduled on Jan. 22 and Jan. 29, represented by attorney Michael J. Nichols. Another defendant linked to the case is also facing charges and will be arraigned the week of Jan. 20. This particular case is under the prosecution of the Ingham County Prosecutor's Office, with Officer Anthony Vandevoorde from the Lansing Police Department leading the investigation.
