Three injured in tractor-trailer accident on I40
A single-vehicle tractor-trailer accident on Interstate 40 near Menifee just after midnight left three Pulaski County residents injured and shut down eastbound traffic for more than two hours into Wednesday morning. Firefighters from the Menifee and Hillcreek departments responded to the scene alongside the Conway County Sheriff's Office and Arkansas State Police, working through the night to manage traffic and assist at the crash site... The eastbound tractor-trailer apparently ran off the north side of the roadway, struck the cable barrier, then returned to the roadway and overturned, blocking both eastbound lanes. The truck's driver sustained serious injuries in the crash. A woman and child who were riding in the sleeper compartment were also hurt, though their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. Med-Tech EMS transported the patients to Conway hospitals... Eastbound traffic was completely halted for over two hours before crews reopened a single lane. Drivers were diverted off the highway at the Menifee exit during that time. Cleanup and recovery efforts were expected to continue into Wednesday morning, and additional lane closures are possible as crews work to remove the wreckage. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined...
