70-year-old motorcyclist killed in Griswold crash on Route 201, police say
GRISWOLD — A 70-year-old motorcyclist was killed Tuesday afternoon when they were struck by an SUV on state Route 201, authorities said. The two-vehicle crash took place around 4:14 p.m. just north of Sunset View, according to a crash report released Wednesday by the Connecticut State Police. Police identified the deceased motorcyclist as Delbert Lee Moore, 70, of Griswold. Investigators believe Moore was driving south on a black 2026 Indian Scout Bobber motorcycle when he was hit by a white 2025 Honda CR-V Sport headed north, the report shows. Police said the SUV, which was being operated by a 66-year-old Griswold woman, crossed into the southbound travel lane shortly before the fatal collision. Police said Moore was pronounced dead on scene, while the SUV driver was transported to the William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich where she was treated for minor injuries. The state police’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad responded to the scene and is assisting with the investigation, police said. Officials previously said Life Star, a medical helicopter, was called to the crash. No charges have been announced in Moore's death. Police said investigators are currently seeking to speak with witnesses or anyone else with information about the wreck.
