Teen accused of drunk driving in fatal Clark County car crash

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – After several months, an arrest was made Tuesday in connection with a fatal car crash in 2025. According to officials, on Aug. 2, Clark County deputies responded to a report of a single-car crash on NE Reilly Road in east Clark County. When officials arrived at the scene, they found a 2013 Jeep Patriot blocking NE Reilly Road with significant passenger-side damage. The crash killed the passenger, 18-year-old Nicholas Ortiz who was declared dead at the scene. The driver -- identified as 19-year-old Matthew Kenne -- was able to exit the vehicle but sustained injuries. Police said Kenne also displayed signs of impairment, leading their Traffic Homicide Unit to open an investigation. Police said Kenne's blood samples were tested to obtain a search warrant and submitted to the Washington State Patrol Toxicology Laboratory for analysis. The investigation found that Kenne had been driving approximately 67–72 mph on NE Reilly Road when he missed a curve, went off the roadway, and hit a large tree. Toxicology results later confirmed a blood alcohol concentration above 0.08. On Tuesday evening, Kenne met with detectives in front of the Clark County Jail, where he was booked on charges of vehicular homicide and minor in possession of alcohol. This is a developing story.
