Highway 71 closed east of Llano after deadly crash, traffic diverted
AUSTIN (KXAN) – State Highway 71 east of Llano is closed due to a fatal crash, according to the Llano Police Department. Police said at approximately 2:35 p.m. DPS troopers responded to the two-vehicle crash. The preliminary investigation says that a Ford F-350 traveling east crossed into the westbound lanes and collided with a box truck. Police said the driver of the F-350 was pronounced dead at the scene, with the box truck driver sustaining minor injuries. Eastbound traffic was being diverted at Llano Junior High School, where large trucks could turn around before returning through the city. Drivers traveling east were advised to use either State Highway 29 East or State Highway 16 South, depending on their destination. Westbound traffic was being diverted at Ranch Road 2233, also known as the Sunrise Beach Cut-Off, through Kingsland. The Llano Police Department said that an update would be provided when the roadway reopens.
