SKAI pulls plug on ‘Survivor’ following player accident

Greek television channel Skai has announced it is ending its reality show “Survivor,” with the final episode scheduled to air Wednesday, just over a week after a serious accident involving one of the contestants in the Dominican Republic. Contestant Stavros suffered severe leg injuries while spearfishing when he was struck by a tourist boat. The channel initially suspended the show following the incident. Skai said the player was transferred to the United States for treatment and remains under close medical supervision at a specialized medical center, accompanied by family members and production staff. “Through joint discussions with the other players and in a particularly emotionally charged atmosphere, it was decided that the game could not continue after this specific incident,” the broadcaster said in a statement. The station said it had decided to end the program permanently, “with absolute priority given to the human factor.” The show would end with a final session of the “island council” at 9 p.m. Wednesday, Skai said.
