PHOTOS: Driver walks away from violent crash with minor injuries, thanks to seatbelt
ALPINE, Wyo. (ABC4) — A driver walked away from a violent crash with some cuts and bruises, and Wyoming Highway Patrol is crediting their survival to their seatbelt. According to Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP), the driver lost control of their pickup truck, crashed into a commercial vehicle, and rolled multiple times before landing in the Snake River. The driver was able to get out of the vehicle on their own and was helped by first responders before being taken to the hospital in Alpine and being cited for failure to maintain lane. The crash happened at mile marker 124 of U.S. 89 during the early afternoon of Monday, June 29. The driver of a Ford F-250 was traveling southbound on US 89 when they lost control of the vehicle and drifted into the northbound lane. The truck struck the side of a car hauler, scraped down the trailer, and then continued south. The truck crashed through the guardrail, ran over the embankment, and rolled two to three times before landing wheels down in the river. Photos show that the truck was severely damaged, and the cab was crushed. WHP said that the driver is lucky to be alive. No identifying information about the driver was provided. "The WHP believes the fact that the driver wore their seatbelt was a primary reason this driver survived such a violent crash," WHP wrote in a social media post. "Pay attention, drive for conditions, and always buckle up!"
