Passenger killed in NE Portland crash identified, teen driver remains in hospital

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- The day after a car crashed into a pole in NE Portland, police have identified the passenger who died. On Wednesday, officials said that Gastelum Kaniya Anita-Nora Whitebird, 22, died after the car she was in hit a light pole near Northeast Lombard Street and Northeast Killingsworth Street. Authorities said that it is believed the car was traveling at a high speed when it failed to make the turn onto Northeast Killingsworth Street, leading to the crash. The car's driver, a 19-year-old man, remains in the hospital, and officials said there are expected to be criminal charges against the driver. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone with information to contact Portland police.
