O’Ward, Rossi, Grosjean crash during Indy 500 practice
INDIANAPOLIS — A three-car crash took out several of the top drivers during Indianapolis 500 practice on Monday afternoon. Pato O'Ward, Alexander Rossi and Romain Grosjean were all involved in the crash. All three drivers were able to climb out of their cars following the collision. Rossi appeared to be limping, however, as he made his way to the safety vehicle. The crash began when Rossi lost control entering turn 2 and struck the outside wall. O'Ward was following closely behind and was unable to maintain control as he struck Rossi. Grosjean was attempting to avoid the crash when he collided with the wall. Rossi was transported to a hospital for further evaluation after the crash. Both Rossi and O'Ward are starting in the top six positions in Sunday's 110th Running of the Indianapolis 500. Rossi, in his Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet, earned the second position after Sunday's qualifying while O'Ward, in his Arrow McLaren Chevrolet, claimed the sixth spot. Grosjean, in his Dale Coyne Racing Honda, is set to start the Greatest Spectacle in Racing in Row 8 after qualifying in 24th position. Practice resumed for a bit after crash cleanup on Monday until storms rolled into Speedway shortly before 2:30 p.m. With rain on the radar and severe storm watches issued, practice was officially shut down for the rest of the day. The next practice session is set for Carb Day on Friday. The Indianapolis 500 is set for 12:45 p.m. on Sunday. It will air live on FOX59.
