Oroville crash near Aguas Frias Road and SR 162 sends SUV into canal
California Highway Patrol (CHP) Oroville officers responded to a one-car crash near the intersection of Aguas Frias Road and State Route 162 on Friday morning. At 11:53 a.m. on May 22, 2026, officers responded to a crash involving a Honda CR-V that went into an irrigation canal. ' Emergency crews arrived quickly after initial reports said the car may have been submerged. CHP responders discovered the vehicle in about a foot of water and confirmed the driver where they discovered that the driver was not seriously injured. CHP with help from Cal Fire were able to help the woman involved in the crash from inside her vehicle back onto the road. CHP said she suffered only minor injuries but was transported to a local hospital as a precaution. An initial investigation by CHP found1 the driver was traveling south on Aguas Frias Road when she became distracted approaching the intersection and failed to stop at the stop sign at State Route 162 before entering the canal. CHP reminded drivers to stay alert and avoid distractions behind the wheel, saying distracted driving remains a leading cause of crashes. -- Report a correction or typo.
