One dead after crash; part of US Highway 50 closed in central Kansas

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A man is dead after a crash on U.S. Highway 50 between Walton and Peabody on Monday. The Kansas Highway Patrol said a pickup truck traveling east crossed the center line for an unknown reason and hit a semi head-on. The crash happened about 6 p.m. The KHP said the driver of the pickup, 49-year-old Gerado Mendoza, from Marion, died from his injuries. The semi driver was not hurt. A portion of U.S. 50 was closed after the crash to allow emergency personnel to investigate and clear the scene. The Harvey County Sheriff's Office responded to the crash alongside the KHP.
