New details released in US-177 fiery crash that left one person dead, three injured
POTTAWATOMIE COUNTY, Okla. (KFOR) — A 39-year-old Yukon man was killed, and three others were injured on Tuesday afternoon in Pottawatomie County in a three-vehicle crash involving a dump truck. According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the crash happened just before 1:25 p.m. on Tuesday on US-177 near Summerwood Lane. A Peterbilt dump truck was traveling south behind a 2023 Subaru Crosstrek that had stopped to make a left turn while waiting for northbound traffic. Another vehicle then passed the stopped Subaru on the right shoulder. Troopers said the dump truck driver attempted to stop but lost control, sliding sideways across both lanes of traffic before hitting the Subaru and a 2016 Ford Transit Connect traveling northbound. Following the crash, the dump truck overturned onto its side, blocking both the northbound and southbound lanes. The Subaru came to rest in a ditch, while the Ford stopped on the east shoulder. Both the dump truck and the Ford caught fire. The driver of the Ford, later identified as 39-year-old Adam Caldwell of Yukon, was pronounced dead. The dump truck driver and the driver of the Subaru were both injured in the crash, including a passenger in the Subaru.
