Motorcyclist killed, juvenile critical after crash in Madison County

MADISON COUNTY, Ind. -- A crash involving a passenger car and a motorcycle left a man dead and a juvenile critically injured in Madison County Monday night. Deputies with the Madison County Sheriff's Department responded around 9:49 p.m. to the intersection of County Road 100 East and County Road 1300 North. MCSD said deputies arrived on the scene and discovered a 2016 Dodge Journey and a 2024 Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle that had been involved in a serious collision. Preliminary information at this time indicates that the Dodge Journey was heading eastbound when it reportedly entered the intersection and did not yield to the right of way, according to MCSD. Around the same time, the motorcyclist was heading northbound, and the two collided. The impact of the collision resulted in the motorcyclist, identified as 33-year-old Matthew Doud, being pronounced dead on the scene by the Madison County Coroner's Office. Officials confirmed that a juvenile riding on the motorcycle was also injured in the incident. They were transported to Peyton Manning Children's Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment of "significant" injuries, MCSD said. Meanwhile, the driver of the Dodge Journey did not sustain any injuries and fully cooperated with authorities after remaining on the scene. The fatal crash remains under active investigation.
