Man dead after DUI collision on California Ave: Bakersfield PD
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A man is dead Monday after a collision on California Avenue, according to the Bakersfield Police Department. BPD said the crash happened just after 12 a.m. Sunday in the intersection of California Avenue and Chester Lane. Officers determined that a silver BMW was travelling southbound on Chester Lane when a silver Mazda entered the intersection westbound against a red traffic signal causing the collision. The driver of the BMW had major injuries and was transported to a hospital where he later died. The driver of the Mazda, now identified as 23-year-old Gavin Mundschau, had minor injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. Police said they found Mundschau to be under the influence when the crash happened. Following medical clearance, he will be booked into the Kern County Sheriff's Office Jail with charges related to vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. BPD said this is an ongoing investigation.
