Madera man killed in Toyota crash, CHP says

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A 25-year-old Madera man has died, and a 40-year-old Chowchilla man was injured, in a crash Wednesday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol. CHP said the crash happened around 6:30 p.m. at Avenue 18 ½ and Road 19. Officers said the Madera man was driving a 2000 Toyota Tacoma north on Road 19, while the Chowchilla man was driving a 2022 Hyundai Tucson west on Avenue 18 1/2. According to investigators, traffic on Avenue 18 1/2 has the right of way, while traffic on Road 19 is controlled by stop signs. Officers said the Toyota driver failed to stop at the stop sign and entered the intersection. The Hyundai then struck the passenger side of the pickup. The impact sent both vehicles into an orchard northwest of the intersection, where they overturned. CHP said the Toyota driver was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected. Despite lifesaving efforts, he died at the scene. The Hyundai driver was wearing a seat belt and was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries.
