Lowell, Vermont man drove drunk, killed passenger in side-by-side crash, police say
An Orleans County man has been charged after a deadly side-by-side crash in Lowell on Thursday.Vermont State Police said Randy Lemieux II was driving a Polaris RZR Side-by-Side on Newton Road when the vehicle rolled over. The crash happened around 10:30 p.m. near Cheney Road.The passenger, 22-year-old Maddison Hayden of Woodbury, Vermont, died at the scene. Police said she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.Troopers at the scene said they screened and arrested Lemieux on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was uninjured in the crash. Lemieux was lodged at Northern State Correctional Facility on $10,000 bail and is due in court on Monday to answer a charge of DUI with death resulting.Police said speed is believed to be a factor in the crash. Weather conditions were clear at the time of the incident. An investigation is underway.
