Knoxville woman dies after ATV crash in Jefferson County
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — A Knoxville woman died after an ATV crash on Sunday, said the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. Heather Wheeler, 56, was operating an ATV with another Knoxville woman, neither of whom had a helmet. According to the preliminary investigation, the vehicle was going downhill on private property when Wheeler lost control and hit a utility pole. Family members took them from the scene in a private vehicle, meeting first responders at the intersection of Highway 92 and Hickory Hills Road around 7 p.m. Jefferson County EMS then took Wheeler to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where she died Monday morning. The passenger was also taken to UT Medical Center, where she was treated and released. "The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Heather Wheeler during this difficult time," JCSO said. New Market Fire Rescue also responded to the incident.
