Juvenile killed, man arrested in deadly crash in Elizabethtown
ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (FOX 56) — One juvenile was killed, and a man was charged after a deadly crash Saturday night in Elizabethtown. Kentucky State Police said that troopers responded to a call at 8:53 p.m. June 27 to a crash near the 860 block of Bewley Hollow Road. A preliminary investigation indicates that David Rhodes, 44, of Elizabethtown, was traveling on Bewley Hollow Road when he lost control of his vehicle. Due to the heavy rain in the area, Rhodes' vehicle overturned and was partially submerged in an over-flooded creek. Rhodes and two juveniles were trapped in the vehicle. Troopers successfully removed all three occupants of the vehicle. Rhodes and one of the juveniles received minor injuries, but the other juvenile received life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. During the investigation, troopers learned that Rhodes was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and first-degree assault. He is being held in the Hardin County Detention Center on a $100,000 cash bond. He is due in court at 9 a.m. June 29.
