IDOT vehicle involved in deadly crash on I-57
BLUE ISLAND, Ill. (WGN) - A deadly crash involving an IDOT vehicle on I-57 in the south suburbs early Saturday morning left one person dead and another person injured. The Illinois State Police said the crash happened at around 4:45 a.m. on I-57 northbound at 127th Street in Blue Island. A passenger vehicle and an IDOT SUV were involved in a crash and pulled over to the left shoulder. While on the left shoulder, they were hit by another vehicle, according to investigators. ISP said one person was taken to an area hospital where they died and a second person was taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries. Both lanes of traffic were shut down as authorities conducted their investigation and traffic was passing through on the right shoulder. Authorities said all lanes reopened just before 9:30 a.m. No other information was released.
