Halfway house escapee accused in Naples crash that seriously hurt elderly couple

NAPLES, Maine (WGME) -- A man held in federal custody is accused of causing a three-car crash Sunday night in Naples, then running off. The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office says the crash happened on Route 302 and Saw Mill Lane. Around 7 p.m., the sheriff's office says 39-year-old Joshua Morin was speeding in a Chevy Malibu when he hit a Subaru head-on. The couple in the Subaru, in their 80s, were hospitalized with serious injuries. The driver of a third car who hit the Subaru suffered minor injuries. The sheriff's office says Morin ran off to the end of a dock and refused to surrender to deputies for more than an hour. A deputy on scene was also a crisis negotiator and helped get Morin into custody. The sheriff's office says Morin was missing from a federal correctional halfway house in Portland. His charges included operating under the influence of drugs and leaving the scene of an accident. Also read: Man stabbed in chest during Raymond wedding reception More charges could be on the way.
