Guilty plea in deadly 2023 crash
A 22-year-old man in Salt Lake City has acknowledged his role in the death of a passenger in his car during a police chase last year. Josue Yahir Hernandez-Perez pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges after he crashed his vehicle while trying to evade officers, resulting in the death of 21-year-old Douglas Rodriguez. Hernandez-Perez was found to have been driving under the influence with three times the legal alcohol limit. He is set to be sentenced in October. In a separate incident related to the shooting that led to the police response, another suspect was arrested and later sentenced to three to 15 years in prison.
