Former Albuquerque police officer to go to trial in connection to fatal crash

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A former Albuquerque police officer who was the passenger in a deadly hit-and-run will be going to trial. The driver, Ezekiel Florez, was sentenced to three years in prison on Thursday. In May 2025, Florez and his passenger, Krystal Garcia, were both off-duty APD officers who were speeding on a motorcycle on Central near Coors when they hit Daniel Trujillo as he was crossing the street. Trujillo later died from his injuries. The Bernalillo County District Attorney said that neither Florez nor Garcia stopped to check on the man; instead, they left the scene and returned four hours later. Garcia's trial is set to begin on October 13.
