Fatal rollover crash victim identified: Colorado Springs police

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The victim of a fatal rollover crash that happened on Monday, June 22, near the intersection of Barnes and Peterson Roads has been identified, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD). Officers responded to the crash around 10 a.m. on Monday, and when police arrived on the scene, they learned that a car headed eastbound on Barnes collided with a vehicle headed northbound on Peterson. The driver of the northbound car was thrown from the vehicle during the crash, and despite officers and medical crews providing aid on-scene, the driver later died of his injuries at the hospital. On Wednesday, June 24, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office identified the driver as 41‑year‑old Michael Michaelis. Two minors were also in the vehicle that rolled over; one sustained a minor injury, and the other sustained non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The driver of the eastbound vehicle was not injured. "Due to the circumstances of the crash, the CSPD Major Crash Team responded and has assumed responsibility for the investigation," police wrote.
