Fatal head-on collision on I-10 near Lordsburg
One person sadly lost their life in a tragic accident on Friday near Lordsburg, New Mexico, when the vehicle they were driving collided with a semitruck, as reported by New Mexico State Police. The crash occurred around 12:15 p.m. on Interstate 10 close to milepost 46. A Honda Accord was traveling in the westbound lane when it crossed the median and crashed into the semitruck, causing it to flip over. Emergency responders had to use special tools to extricate the Honda driver from the vehicle, but despite their efforts, the driver succumbed to their injuries at the scene, as stated by New Mexico State Police. There is no suspicion of alcohol involvement in the incident. While eastbound I-10 had to be shut down for a few hours, it was reopened by approximately 4:30 p.m., according to the New Mexico Department of Transportation. Footage circulated on social media showing the aftermath of the crash, including a toppled semitruck and scattered car debris along the roadway. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
