Fatal Collision on I-215 in Riverside Caused by Wrong-Way Driver
A tragic incident occurred on January 14, 2026, at approximately 12:18 AM on Interstate 215 South near Central Avenue in Riverside, California. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) received reports of a silver Mitsubishi Galant traveling in the wrong direction on the southbound lanes of I-215. Despite CHP units trying to intercept the vehicle, the Mitsubishi collided head-on with a silver Toyota Camry near Central Avenue. Regrettably, the driver of the Toyota passed away at the scene, while the Mitsubishi's driver, a 20-year-old from Moreno Valley, sustained severe injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. Alcohol or drugs are suspected to have played a role in the crash.
