Fatal accident in Pittsburgh's Mon River recalls 1984 tragedy

The recent tragic incident on Thursday where a car crashed into the Monongahela River in Pittsburgh was reminiscent of a past crash near that area. In January 1984, there was a similar crash where Carnegie Mellon University professor David Tuma lost his life. Eyewitnesses reported that Tuma's car lost control on ice while traveling outbound on the Parkway East, leading to it sliding over a guardrail and into the river. This incident occurred at a spot close to where Thursday's crash took place, claiming the life of Jacinta Stevens, 31, from the West End neighborhood.
