E-bike rider injured after hit-and-run crash

A person is in life-threatening condition after a hit-and-run crash at the intersection of South High Street and Mound Street. The person was riding an electric bike northbound on S. High St. at Mound St. and entered the intersection on a green traffic signal. At the same time, a white 2016 Chrysler 300 was traveling westbound on E. Mound St. approaching S. High St. The Chrysler drove between two westbound vehicles — one stopped at a red traffic signal and another slowing for the red — and then entered the intersection. The front of the Chrysler crushed the electric bike, knocking the rider off, and landing on the corner of the intersection. The Chrysler continued westbound on W. Mound St. without stopping. The e-bike rider was rushed to Grant Medical Center in life-threatening condition. The Accident Investigation Unit responded to the scene and opened an investigation, which is ongoing.
